Lower 2 Subwatershed
Advisory Group

The Lower 2 branch of the Rouge River has a drainage area of 21,027 acres and flows through the communities of Westland, Wayne, Romulus, Garden City, Inkster, Dearborn Heights, and Dearborn, before joining the Main branch of the Rouge.

According to 1990 Census data, approximately 134,132 people live in the subwatershed within 49,383 households. Because it includes many older suburban communities, a high percentage of the Lower 2 is almost completely built out with only 3% urban open space left in the subwatershed. The largest category of land use is residential housing (52%). However, the Lower 2 has many recreational areas including, Wayne County's Lower Rouge Parkway, Dearborn Hills Golf Course, Ford Field, and Inkster Valley Golf Course.

The Lower 2 Subwatershed Group has developed a watershed management plan in accordance with the requirements of the Michigan General Storm Water Permit. For questions or further information contact Zachare Ball at zball@ectinc.com.

A Common Appendix has been developed for the subwatershed management plans. This includes detailed technical data, maps, and information best management practices for each of the seven subwatersheds.

Communities are currently working on their Storm Water Pollution Prevention Initiative (SWPPI). Click here for guidance materials on developing the SWPPI.
